“Color of Spring” : Seasons of Siskiyou Series

Description of Seasons of Siskiyou Series
Surrounding my home, covering more than one million acres, is the Rogue River - Siskiyou National Forest which takes up three southern Oregon counties and one northern California county. It’s a magical place that fills the imagination and lifts the spirit; a place that inspires with its uniqueness, its legends, and its larger-than-life vistas.
Each season in the Siskiyou mountains is a unique experience unto itself. So, with an attention to the feelings this place evokes at any given time of the year, I designed four generative tokens to create an impression of the emotion–the calming quietness; the peaceful solitude; the overwhelming contrasts and variety of forms, shapes and textures; the magic and playful mystery; the welcomingness and foreboding. These four works feature clever and inventive creative coding techniques in a rich, graphic style to craft a stunning impression of the Seasons of Siskiyou.
Token 1 of 4 - THE COLOR OF SPRING (1990 x 1080) p5js Generative Token.
The Color of Spring captures the playfulness and joy of the season of birth; the renewal and hopefulness of a bounty that follows warmth and light. The weight of winter and the burdens of darkness melt away with the length of the day. The monotones of a gray-chromatic winter bristle with bursts of bright colors in an ocean of budding green. Magic brings forth the harbingers of fruit and the fleeting, nostalgic notes of newness and surprise. In such a place, in such a time, we are transported back to when this was the world, and all there was in it. With a child-mind, we are suspended in that instant while we relive all the moments like it. And, before we have time to grow tired of it, it disappears into the brilliant light of summer.
Output and Coding Features of “The Color of Spring”:
This generative token features a stand of aspen that borders a field of wildflowers in a sea of lush, green grass. Animated pixies tend to the flowers as they wave their wands while fluttering about the field. Fuzzy orbs of light dance around each pixie with some that glide capricious throughout the scene.
Press UP ARROW to toggle the scene on/off leaving only the pixies and glowing orbs. Press RIGHT ARROW to toggle Pause and Play. Press LEFT ARROW to toggle Add and Remove pixies. The static scene has a blurry particle effect added in. Press DOWN ARROW to save the current frame as a png image file. The file will be downloaded to a local folder.
Collectors can choose to pause the animation and freeze the scene on a static image. If collectors so desire, they may remove the pixies from the scene and appreciate the simple beauty without distraction. Capture an image as a downloadable image file by pressing the Down Arrow.
The aspens are generated using flow-field stochastic conditions for an organic structure, and with a random expression of knots as the object is formed.
The grass and flower pedals are generated using recursions that incorporate noise-stochastic conditions.
The pixies are generated with primitive geometries using a “marionette” style structure. The animation is achieved through noise-stochastic conditions that rotate segments, such as the arms, legs and feet.
Each iteration varies the order and appearance of the graphic elements; the number of pixies and the number of flowers.
