Another year has begun. I love the boundaries of things. Like the border between years, the border between night and morning, day and night always fascinate us. When the year changes, I am certainly a different person than I was yesterday, but I am not sure that I have really changed. Am I really growing and changing for the better?
　It seems that the world does not always change for the better. I live in Japan, and in 2022 alone, there were many sad incidents. Every time I watch the news, I am disturbed. This is very sad.
　I am very, very small. I still don't know what kind of power I have, and even if I did, its impact on the world would be minute. I am building a staircase today. It is something that tries to see the boundary between something and something else, and connects them together so that they can come and go. The boundary will not be represented by a single line, but will be a vague gradation. Even with such uncertainty, I want to look at the heart of something that has changed or is about to change. I pray. I pray that even in the midst of so much sadness, there will be a little time for peace of mind. I pray that, as time goes by, we will be able to look at these sad events with a peaceful gaze. I want to build a staircase in my soul so that I can look through it.
