Sashiko

This artwork is inspired by Sashiko - meaning 'little stabs' - which is the traditional Japanese method of repairing fabric with elaborate embroidery designs. This method makes the original fabric thicker, more durable and more beautiful.
Here the plain coloured textiles take a back seat to the stitching, with simple palettes and layouts.
Keys 2, 3 and 4 will render the artwork at increasing resolutions.

The patterns exist, inherent in the nature of this mathematical universe. Like a sculptor releasing a figure already contained within a block of wood, I release the patterns already contained in relationships between numbers and space.
