This performative/generative work is initially developed as an art form to take advantage of a context where truth might still be an advantage, in opposition to the constant self-monitoring imposed on social media. Later in the process we notice that in contemporary art, specially in the NFT context, we still embellish truth with an outfit that might help it go viral, even if less constricted.
This work dances in the intersection of two distinctive languages: 60’s procedural happenings and TikTok dances. Beyond their similarities in being presets of rules for the use of the body as medium, in each of their contexts (contemporary art and social media) these languages are expected to have been assimilated and articulated by the user (artist/influencer) as a sign of understanding of the symbols and rituals of the shared territory.
It also explores a potential relation between generative art now and what was taken as a generative concept before the proliferation of the term, systems that still deal with parameters and variables, even if the computational power is human. Placing TikTok and other social media’s typical languages in a certain perspective where it becomes a giant performative machine.
Text was inspired by and taken from Instagram captions.
