Postmodern Sacrifices
IPFS
30 May 2022•TEZOS•IPFS
Emerged from the collaboration between a collage artist and a creative coder, the multidisciplinary generative token aims to explore the cultural extensions of a story borrowed from Greek mythology.
A half-man and half-bull creature was born as a result of the punishment given by Poseidon to King Minos of Crete. They called him, the Minotaur. With a tendency towards violence and an insatiable appetite, he became impossible to control as he grew.
Seeking a solution, Minos asked the famous architect Daedalus to design a complex structure, in which the beast would be imprisoned. Thus, the first labyrinth was built.
Later, after his military victory against Athens, the king ordered that fourteen young Athenian citizens (seven men and seven women) be offered each year as sacrifices to the Minotaur. This remained the case, until Theseus joined one of these groups to kill the ferocious animal.
Myths are fundamental narratives that function as blueprints, since they tend to consistently remain relevant with respect to human experience. “Postmodern Sacrifices” is an attempt to discover which archetypical concepts can be extracted from the ancient Greek tale. Duality? Exclusion? Punishment?
Here, they find a new esthetic environment.
The classical labyrinth of Daedalus, reconstructed on modern screens with each variation.
And fourteen collages, sacrificed to the Minotaur.

Main features:
• 14 collages
• 14 duotone color palettes (including the inverted)
• 7 levels of complexity for the labyrinth
