"Phở or pho is a Vietnamese soup dish consisting of broth, rice noodles , herbs, and meat (usually beef (phở bò), sometimes chicken (phở gà)). Pho is a popular food in Vietnam where it is served in households, street stalls and restaurants countrywide. Pho is considered Vietnam's national dish."

This project generates a bowl of pho with a randomized selection of ingredients represented by image layers that are superimposed into a single image. Each combination of pho, chopsticks, and background is unique.

This is a collaborative project between Evan Weinberg and Nomer Adona. Evan and Nomer taught together at an international school in Vietnam until June 2022. Nomer is an artist, designer, and teacher who has lived in Vietnam for over 15 years. He drew the individual layers for each ingredient in Procreate. This is Nomer’s first experience with generative art. Evan has taught mathematics, science, programming, and creative engineering for the past 19 years. He wrote the code to combine and randomize the layers using p5js. Evan and Nomer have enjoyed sharing the parallels between creative engineering design and the artistic design process with students and colleagues over the past six years. This project was used as an opportunity to work together one final time in person before Evan left Vietnam, and is designed to show appreciation for their host country.
