The concept of this work came to my mind when I saw a photo taken of a wooden beam’s cross-section: A beam that one day was a tree in its growth process, raising awareness and making its natural journey. However, it was cut down and turned into a beam carrying a load of a rustic-style bungalow’s roof in the fantastic countryside. This beam has borne many tensions, representing themselves as significant cracks and holes on the beam cross-section.
I was wondering how similar this process is to our life. Each of us has stayed through many thick and thin in our life. Sometimes it was on a roller coaster, or we just felt trapped in a vicious circle of daily events. We eventually passed all of them, but the point is whether we take a lesson from them and make them a motivating factor to keep going on or just …?
I firmly believe that we should practice doing our best at the present moment. The past has gone, and the future has not arrived yet. We should learn to observe each breath we take; in each moment of our life, we should observe our pleasant or unpleasant feelings… do not resist or overreact! Just watch precisely… With this process, a new growth path will start.
I vectorised the photo in Adobe Illustrator, then highlighted the logic behind the curves through writing scripts on the grasshopper plugin and baked the outputs on the rhino ceros.
