Microscopic Cells

1 September 2022TEZOSIPFS

This digital artwork is a great example of the benefits that technology has brought to our lives. Technologies such as microscopes, which allows us to see things very small and microscopic have allowed scientists to learn more about the world around them. These techniques have also been used by artists in order to make paintings depicting the world in a different way. With this painting, it's clear that Claude Picasso's message was one of curiosity and life-long learning. It's interesting though, how he uses microscopic cells not just for themselves but for their role in helping us learn more about life and its human significance. This is of course a very different use to that of the microscope. However, this technique is not just used by scientists but also by many artists during the twentieth century. During this time, there was a development in art techniques that artists called "relief drawing", which involved drawing on a metal plate which could then be magnified to produce micrographs. These micrographs were then normally transferred to another surface (such as paper) so that they could be viewed at an even more microscopic scale. This process was used quite extensively in order to produce accurate representations of life and its processes – especially due to the ability of the relief drawing method and equipment to create accurate detail or magnification.
