This work is a tribute to Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau, and many other pioneering artists of genetic and transgenic art (such as Eduardo Kac).

In his works, the text is transformed into genetic information for the configuration of virtual or real beings. Works such as "Life Spacies" by Christa Sommerer and Laurent Mignonneau, or "Genesis" by Eduardo Kac, established new relationships between text and DNA.

“Las Mariposas de Sommerer” is an interactive work that allows the public to enter their given name and control the configuration of a butterfly's wings based on said text. Depending on the name entered, each letter is translated into a number (between 0 and 1) and these numbers are then used to set the different configuration parameters of the wings. The parameters that are controlled are the general shape of the wings, the texture colors and patterns and the wings contours details.

Butterflies have 6 general wing shapes that are combined with at least 19 types of details that produce many possible combinations, as well as different colors and sizes of textures.

The translation between letters and numbers is established according to a "dictionary" that is defined from the "hash", so each "hash" generates a unique dictionary, therefore each new mint establishes unique relationships between names and wings designs, and while each “hash” produces countless butterflies, their relationships are unique.

It can be said that each collector becomes the beneficiary of a unique dictionary that establishes the relationship between names/words and wing designs.
