Laniakea Supercluster

27 August 2022TEZOSIPFS

The Large Magellanic Cloud, the Small Magellanic Cloud, and the Andromeda Galaxy are younger than the Milky Way and are on a collision course with it. Their intense gravitational fields will cause them to collide into the Milky Way in about 4 billion years.

Some material from the Large Magellanic Cloud, the Small Magellanic Cloud, and the Andromeda Galaxy will accumulate in the superclusters and large voids that are located within the Local Group. The collision with the galaxies will heat the interstellar matter in the region to form massive stars and gas clouds. The intermingled gas and dust will lead to the birth of the first galaxies in the universe.

The subsequent massive star birth in the Local Group will leave large voids and even larger ones will remain.
