The art is supposed to be reflective of a nostalgic childhood concept that i now am viewing with some form of maturity.

ka·lei·do·scope | \ kə-ˈlī-də-ˌskōp \
Definition
1: an instrument containing loose bits of colored material (such as glass or plastic) between two flat plates and two plane mirrors so placed that changes of position of the bits of material are reflected in an endless variety of patterns
2: something resembling a kaleidoscope: such as
a: a variegated changing pattern or scene
a kaleidoscope of colors
b: a succession of changing phases or actions
a kaleidoscope of changing fashions

I have used the concept of the kaleidoscope to visualize the Japanese world view of wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a world view centered around acceptance of the transient and imperfection. The aesthetic is described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". The inner workings of a kaleidoscope are comprised of pieces of shattered glass that, when tumble together and viewed through a prism, form beautiful patterns. Therefore I think the kaleidoscope articulates the idea of wabi-sabi by capturing the ephemeral beauty arising from the collapse of imperfect objects/images.

We are all kaleidoscopes; aside from the obvious comparison to inner beauty and individuality, we are all uniquely complicated on the inside. A mixture of thoughts, ideas, and colors seeing the outside as a reflection of what is on the inside.
