Hatching is one of the main techniques for pen and pencil drawings, etchings and copper engravings. Hatching is a combination of lines that thus depict different depths, effects and expressions.

In pen and ink drawings, shading is indispensable. It is, in fact, the way to place the deep black ink on the mostly white paper. Hatching in architectural drawings indicates the various materials, for example in detail drawings. Look at old masters such as Duerer, Rembrandt and Da Vinci and you will see what depth they create with just carefully placed lines.

In this generative abstract work I have not included any features, but some combinations do occur more frequently. Others are rarer.
