Iconography and memes are the language of our times, but they’re also culturally specific. By juxtaposing the iconic slasher with varying pastel backgrounds and objects much different from implements of death, what effect does it have on the viewer?

Through this I also want to explore how static images can leave ambiguity in the story. Both by removing context, changing it, or by adding something “ridiculous,” imagery can cause us to make assumptions and perceive things that might exist outside the image’s frame.

Is Jason attacking someone just outside the frame? Might he be snatching the bride’s bouquet at a wedding, or is he viciously murdering someone with it? Is he about to smash someone’s head in with a teddy bear, or is he protecting it from an angry dog?

The answers are up to the viewer. However, if he is attacking, then how do you respond to the idea of a supernatural serial killer attacking with these items? Are they innocuous? Do they tell you a story about what it means to die bludgeoned by a sex toy or a flyswatter? Is it funny? More terrifying? Ridiculous, scary, or both?
