Flowers of the North

15 January 2022TEZOSIPFS

An endless flow of particles draws a flower. Their paths are guided by the color values of an input image. One of the parameters in the system varies slowly over time, so the behavior of the particles changes. The digital painting on the screen, like a visualization of the swarm's behavior, shifts as well. Old strokes fade into black, constantly replaced by new ones.

Each piece takes as input one of 16 different photos of flowers I took during a trip through Salta and Jujuy provinces in the Argentinean North-West (NOA): a dry, rugged, and very beautiful part of the country I live in.

This work is part of the “Dreamlines” series of explorations on algorithmic redrawings of images, which started more than 15 years ago and has had many iterations.
