I love flamingos, and I love pink. So it was really no surprise that I fell in love with this piece. The flamingo is such an iconic image—it's one of the most recognizable birds in the world, and it's also one of the most beautiful ones, too. But I didn't just want to make a painting of a flamingo: I wanted to reflect its significance within the context of my own life and explore the idea of how all animals can be seen as symbolic manifestations of our inner selves.

The piece itself is minimalistic and modern—but it also has a playful side (the way you'd expect from an animal-themed piece). The texture on the riverbed reflects its surroundings in a way that makes you feel like you're swimming through it, while at the same time it holds your attention with its fluidity and depth.
