From a single point, a pulse emerges—steady, rhythmic, eternal. The Fixed Wave vibrates not across oceans, but across a grid of silence. Each ripple is a whisper, each hue a reaction to invisible energy. A world in flux, yet perfectly anchored, breathes beneath a surface of shifting color.
Color flows like emotion—spreading, fading, returning—caught between two poles of pigment, never still, yet never moving beyond its frame. This is a wave not meant to travel, but to resonate, eternally tied to its source. A snapshot of motion that never escapes, forever echoing in place.
"Fixed Wave" is a generative artwork created in p5.js, simulating wave dynamics within a confined 2D space. It uses a finite difference method to approximate the 2D wave equation, creating lifelike ripples from a single oscillating point on a grid.
Core components include:
A dynamic grid, randomly sized between 10x10 to 160x160, defining the resolution of the wave.
A central oscillator emitting a sine wave at a randomized frequency, continuously injecting energy at a fixed point.
Wave propagation is computed across the grid using buffers (prev, current, next) updated on each frame to simulate realistic motion.
Each grid cell is rendered as a rectangle, with color and transparency determined by the amplitude of the wave at that point.
Colors transition smoothly between two randomly selected values from a custom palette of 15 curated hues.
The wave is bounded—no escape, no reflection—creating a contained, resonant system of perpetual oscillation.
Each mint generates a unique visual field—a standing wave in color and light—where physics meets poetry in digital form.
