Crescent is a generative p5.js piece based on an algorithm that calculates the intersection points between circles. In short, the piece selects a layout mode, casts circles based on the rules of the mode, then calculates the intersections between all of the circles. It then decides which part of the intersection to display. This can be 1 or two crescents, the blip where the circles intersect, or the entire combination of the two circles.

I created this piece with the intention to print the output of the algorithm. It is optimized for print size and detail.

Due to the potential complexity, the animation can take up to a minute to complete.

To Export: Go into Live / full screen view. Wait for the piece to finish animating, then press the SPACE BAR. The export size is 5400 x 7200, which works well for printing at 18" x 24".
