People have lots of useless stuff, some more than others, some less. Not only do they spend money buying things they don't need, but some of them require obligatory extra costs and care for proper upkeep. Let's say you buy a fancy car. You constantly make sure it doesn't get scratched, you wash it regularly, you say "careful about the seats" and you never allow someone to eat in it, since vacuuming is hardly something you like doing. Overall, it's just a burden.

Having something forces you to change your behavior. That's not necessarily bad, but it is a fact.
