Chopped Square Tessellation is a layered tessellation. Each layer consists of an array of a single rectangular tile manipulated by random values that remove or chop rectangular pieces from its four corners.

The tile is made to conform to its place in a layout called: Fractions of the Whole. This algorithm decides how many segments of random sizes to divide each side of the picture space into and creates areas within the picture frame based on those segments.

The number of layers vary randomly from a few to many to make the image simple to complex. Each layer is drawn in a random color. The chopped corners of the squares in each layer allow the viewer to see the layer(s) below to create depth and interesting interactions in the image. The top layer is drawn some random percent transparent.
