Simple exploration of figure/ground generated from the flow of circles across an infinite field. Each composition is made up of a number of circles with a distance-based connective tissue of lines. Inspired by Nolli’s 1748 figure/ground drawing of Rome, the fields of color resemble expansive plazas, winding alleys, and building masses. Or do they resemble icebergs flowing across the sea? These generative bergburgs are both mountain and city. In a constant ebb and flow, the figures never repeat.

There are 4 primary colors used for foreground or background. There is a 1 in 13 chance of a unique color outside of the 4 primary colors to be used as foreground over a white background.

Press and hold mouse to reveal the generative circles. Press any key to reveal the network of lines.
