Bauhaus Solstice: Where Nature Meets Minimalist Obsession

I’ve been chasing two loves for as long as I can remember: the solstice, that fleeting moment when the Earth leans into its extremes of light and shadow, and the Bauhaus movement, with its pursuit of form stripped to its essence. Bauhaus Solstice is where these collide, and I've loved pouring them into this artwork.

The solstice makes me reflect twice a year on so many things, the world pauses at its brightest or darkest, from London’s endless summer days to Patagonia's’ winter hush. It connects us all through these universal shifts, no matter where we stand. Then there’s Bauhaus: those clean lines, that fearless minimalism, the way every shape and stroke has its place.

Bauhaus Solstice splits the canvas in half, a nod to the solstice’s Yin and Yang, light on one side, dark on the other, flipping randomly like the universe tossing a coin. Semicircles, inspired by Bauhaus’s geometric purity, cross the divide. I pulled data for cities worldwide. Stockholm’s 18-hour days, Darwin’s balmy solstice nights. A random one takes centre stage each time, its details (date, sunrise, longest day) laid out in the Bauhaus93 font.

I built it as an SVG for that crisp, infinite scalability, Embedding the Bauhaus93 font as Base64 so the artwork stays true wherever it goes.
