山水, literally mountain and water, i.e. landscape. Instead ink, brush, and rice paper, rectangles, p5js and screen, explores not code realism, but code-ism composition and form. 畫, painting, each landscape is performed, unknowing the exact, as is Chinese landscape painting, the painter, paints his or her fictional landscape. Here my code and the hash paints each landscape with a constrained brush, that is rectangles.

An important aesthetic factor in Chinese landscape painting is the negative space. Here the positive-negative relation is akin to ying-yang, that in Tai-Chi (太極), there are no absolute positive-yang and absolute negative-ying. At the edge of one polar extreme, signals the change towards the other. Like midday, the sun will set. And between midday and midnight, there is plenty of grey.

I am sorry “life has no scores” will not be my final drop just yet. Precisely since life has no fixed scores to follow. In preparation for my solo ink show in march, I look towards generative art to give me inspiration. Instead of code imitating brush, my brush and mind aims to discover my own fictional landscapes through code and hashes.

To see mountains, where there are not any, just the concept of them. I hope you enjoy the mountain view as I will. fxhash is more than a community, when our path crosses, we create art together.
