It's eclipse season, the most wonderful time of the year, and we have a very special eclipse to get us off to a great start (or end):

The lovely, Bloodworm Moon.

The first Full moon in March was traditionally termed the "Full Worm Moon" by Native Americans because March marks the time when the weather warms, and worms begin to emerge from the ground. It's simply a practical marker and holds no mythological significance. Additionally, this Lunar Eclipse will be "Total," meaning it fully enters the earth's umbral shadow, causing the moon to turn a shade of red, resembling blood (which has many mythological significations).

Hence, Bloodworm Moon.

Throughout this writing, we're gonna unpack what you can expect during this both beautiful and calamitous cosmological phenomenon, in somewhat excruciating detail. But before we dive deep:

Lunar eclipses unearth what’s been buried, forcing us to confront the shadows we've ignored. We have a lot of shadows right now. Technological hubris and materialism have eroded the moral and ethical foundations of society. There's no question that technologies redistribute power to individuals, creating opportunities. However, as many technologies have matured, they've been abused—used either shamelessly, or outright maliciously in pursuit of worldly gain.

This lunar eclipse creeps in, shaking the foundations of our technological hubris, resulting in a financial breakdown. As our illusions of value are challenged, we are left facing with the super cliché question: What truly matters?

Let's find out.

When and Where

The entire eclipse will last 6 hours and 3 minutes, while the total phase (when the Moon is in Earth’s darkest shadow and appears dark red) will last only 1 hour and 5 minutes. However, according to some astrologers, the effects of an eclipse can linger (albeit in a significantly diminished form) for up to 6 months afterwards. So if you thought you were off the hook after the eclipse period ends, think again.

It will culminate on March 13-14, 2025, from 06:26 GMT to 07:32 GMT.

The eclipse will exert the highest impact where it has the highest visibility: Over North and South America.

Overview

Astrologically, full moons represent culmination, illumination, and emotional peaks—lunar eclipses take this to an extreme. They heighten emotions, impulsivity and can often trigger significant market volatility. Eclipses mark periods of culmination and endings, revealing the consequences of past choices and decisions.

While all Lunar Eclipses share the same general principles, their effects vary widely. Some are forceful and swift, wiping things out in an instant, while others unfold gradually, culminating quietly. Some seemingly do nothing at all. There are many different facets to a Lunar Eclipse which colors its characteristics. To understand what type of Lunar Eclipse we are dealing with, we have to break it down into its key components, and then weave them together into one cohesive story.

The Bloodworm Moon is a cataclysmic combo of many ingredients. Some poignant ones include:

1. Total Lunar Eclipse

2. Micromoon

3. Moon Conjunct Ketu

4. Moon Trine Uranus

5. Eclipse point at 23°56’ Virgo

I'm using an orb of around 5 degrees, only considering aspects that have a significant influence. While there are a few additional aspects, including those to Saturn and Mars, their effects are notably diminished.

Saturn is in close aspect with the Sun and moon, however it is combust, and its strength is significantly weakened.

Mars sits right at the 5 degree cutoff, however Mars just stationed direct on February 23, 2025. It takes Mars approximately 30–40 days post-station to return to its average speed and even longer (60–90 days) to reach peak zodiacal speed near opposition. Therefore, Mars zodiacal speed is below average, so its effects are muted. Additionally, Mars is in the sign of its fall (Cancer), further debilitating its energy.

1. Total Lunar Eclipse

A lunar eclipse occurs at a Full Moon, when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align (syzygy). Lunar eclipses are classified into three main types—penumbral, partial, and total—based on the Moon’s position relative to Earth’s two shadow zones: the penumbra (the outer, lighter shadow) and the umbra (the inner, darker shadow).

The Umbral Magnitude tells us the fraction of the Moon’s diameter covered by Earth’s umbral shadow at the eclipse’s maximum. Generally speaking, the higher the umbral magnitude, the more vivid the red color appears, and the more pronounced the eclipses effects.

Umbral Shadow Thresholds:

The highest possible umbral magnitude for a lunar eclipse is theoretically around 1.9 to 2.0, occurring when the Moon passes nearly dead-center through Earth’s umbra at perigee under optimal alignment. Practically, historical maxima reach ~1.889 (e.g., 1982), constrained by orbital tilt and geometry.

The Blood-Worm Moon has an Umbral Magnitude of 1.18 (118%), fully entering the Earth's umbral shadow, but some ways off from dead center, as you can see in the image below.

However, while not the bloodiest of the blood moons, it is still completely swallowed by the Earths umbral shadow, and delegated a blood moon. Historically, any red tinted Moons have been perceived as inauspicious omens for as far back as we can trace, symbolizing blood, fire, calamity, death, and destruction. Some notable records include:

1. Enuma Anu Enlil, a collection of omen texts on clay tablets (circa 2000–1000 BCE). A tablet from the reign of Ashurbanipal (circa 669 BCE) states: “If the moon becomes red and is eclipsed, the land will see evil; the king will face hardship." Another from 673 BCE notes: “The moon turned reddish in its eclipse; it foretells the destruction of the army.

2. Plutarch’s Life of Nicias (circa 75 CE), recounting the lunar eclipse of August 27, 413 BCE, during the Sicilian Expedition, building on Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War (411 BCE). Plutarch writes: “The moon turned a ruddy color during the eclipse, which the Athenians took as an ill omen.” He adds that Nicias, influenced by priests, delayed retreat because “the reddish moon portended disaster.

3. Han Shu (Book of Han, compiled circa 111 CE), documenting astronomical events from the Han Dynasty and earlier, including a possible eclipse around 181 BCE. The text records: “In the 5th year of Emperor Wen, the moon turned red during an eclipse, and calamity followed in the capital.” Another entry notes: “When the moon becomes as if red, it is a sign of rebellion or drought.

4. Dresden Codex (circa 1200–1250 CE), with textual elaboration from Diego de Landa’s _Relación de las cosas de Yucatán_ (1566 CE), based on Maya informants. The codex includes eclipse tables with red-painted moon glyphs (e.g., page 53), interpreted as lunar eclipses. De Landa writes: “They said the moon became red, and this was a sign of evil times, of war or the anger of the gods.” A specific eclipse (possibly 759 CE) is linked to red imagery and turmoil.

2. Micromoon

The moon's characteristics shift depending on its distance away from the Earth. This is because the moons orbit around the Earth is elliptical, not circular, so its distance towards the Earth varies depending on where it is within its orbit. If the moon is near Perigee, it will be closer to the Earth, and appear larger and brighter. When its near Apogee, it will be further away from the Earth, and appear smaller and dimmer.

https://paac.ppc.ac.in/2022/06/14/what-is-a-supermoon-a-micromoon/

The moons distance from the Earth tells us what type of moon it is. There is no official labels for distance thresholds, however, generally, if it is closest towards the Earth (within ~90% of perigee), it is termed a Supermoon. Conversely, if it is furthest away from the Earth (within ~90% of apogee), it is termed a Micromoon. However, most moons fall somewhere in between and are relegated, Regular Moons.

Distance Thresholds:

Generally speaking, the closer the moon, the larger it appears, the brighter it shines, and the more pronounced its effects. However, there's a bit more nuance to the story, as the speed plays a pivotal role in the moons effects too.

Supermoons, are larger, brighter, and as you might assume, more powerful. They have a stronger gravitational pull, amplifying tides and emotions significantly. Additionally, the Moon moves faster in its orbit at perigee. This shortens its time near perigee, making its effects a quicker, more intense "pulse." This gives Supermoons an effect of being more external, dramatic, immediate, intense, overwhelming, and raw.

On the other hand, Micromoons, are smaller, dimmer, and have a less pronounced effect. However, their effects are not just weaker than a supermoons, it’s a completely different profile. At apogee, the moon moves slower. The weaker pull is more prolonged, spreading its influence over a slightly wider window. This reduces extremes—less pronounced highs and lows. This gives Micromoons an effect of being more internal, gradual, understated, subtle, restrained, and reflective.

Whereas the energy of a supermoon comes on abruptly, striking fast with intensity (high peaks, deep troughs), a micromoon comes on slowly, gradually building over a longer period of time (muted peaks, shallower troughs).

The Bloodworm Moon culminates at ~401,000 km, meeting the Micromoon threshold of (~400,000 – 405,500 km). This is very close to apogee maximum (~98.9% of the way). Therefore expect emotions to simmer, not strike.

3. Moon Conjunct Ketu

The north and south nodes are the points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the ecliptic—the plane of Earth’s orbit around the Sun. Lunar eclipses only occur when the sun and moon are conjunct opposing nodes, so the moon will always be near one of the nodes, north or south.

https://www.lovetoknow.com/life/astrology/what-is-lunar-north-node-astrology

The nodes are important because they symbolize Rahu (the North Node) and Ketu (the South Node), the shadow planets (chaya grahas). They are not physical planets, but critical mathematical points where the Moon’s orbit intersects the ecliptic, often seen as more influential than the visible planets in shaping destiny.

Rahu, The head of the dragon, is materialistic, ambitious, obsessive, chaotic, forward-looking. Rahu pulls you toward the external world and future possibilities. Rahu drives insatiable cravings—for wealth, power, fame, or experiences. It’s the force behind worldly pursuits and breaking boundaries.

Ketu, The tail of the dragon, is spiritual, introspective, karmic, past-focused, liberating. Ketu seeks freedom from worldly ties, urging surrender and spiritual growth. Ketu brings abrupt closures or losses, cutting cords to what no longer serves.

The bloodworm moon will culminate ~3° conjunct Ketu (within a tight 5° orb), which means Ketu will play a major role in the lunar eclipses influence. Ketu ushers in sudden endings. It can cause material loss in order to force a more spiritual outlook in a person. With the Eclipse point occurring in Virgo, we can expect Ketu to dissolve Virgo’s grip on control, cutting ties with the material.

4. Moon Trine Uranus

The Moon at 23°57' Virgo trines Uranus in Taurus at ~24°15', with a tight orb of just 0.3° (18 minutes), making it almost exact. A trine’s a smooth, harmonious aspect, adding a pleasant layer onto the eclipse's otherwise malefic intensity. But here’s the twist: Uranus is in fall in Taurus, keeping it on a leash. What could’ve been a sudden epiphany or a breakout, turns into a calmer, more sober realization within the realms of Taurus (values, finances, possessions). It urges us to stay grounded, play by the rules, and rethink stability.

5. Eclipse point at 23°56’ Virgo

The eclipse point both augments the eclipses energy, as well as tells us where this energy will be directed. It's the "how" and the "where."

The How: Virgo is a grounding, practical, and logical force. It's masculine energy. It's not about getting caught up in emotions, but what you can do to fix the problem practically. It's a call to get your shit together.

The Where: Virgo rules the 6th house, which governs work, health, routines, and systems—more specifically, it can represent the technologies and processes we rely on in our daily lives.

Virgo is represented by the maiden, a humanoid figure. All humanoid figures within the zodiac (Aquarius, Gemini, Virgo) relate to distinctly human qualities, namely the intellect, and the use of technologies.

Additionally, the maiden holds a chaff of wheat—a symbolic crop that is cultivated, harvested, and processed to extract its core value. The maiden is often seen as a symbol of purity, reflected in the proverb "separating the wheat from the chaff"—a process of purification, where what is valuable (the wheat) is distinguished from what is useless (the chaff).

However, don’t let the virgin maiden’s association with purity be misleading. The process of purification isn’t always benevolent—its often shameless or outright malicious, such as when exploiting systems for material or worldly gain. Therefore, Virgo’s essence is not just about purity for its own sake, but about cultivating, harvesting, and refining—in material and intellectual, or technological realms.

Technologies give rise to new industries and work opportunities—media platforms create income streams for content creators, Large Language Models (LLMs) open doors for developers and businesses, and blockchains unlock financial and transactional possibilities for users. As creators and users begin to reap rewards, they attract waves of new participants—both genuine believers and opportunists looking to exploit the system.

Over time, as noise overtakes signal, deception and short-term profiteering saturate the ecosystem, stalling true innovation and creativity. The eclipse in Virgo challenges these unscrupulous practices, to collapse what is destined to fail, and then sweep away the debris, clearing space for something new to take root and grow.

Conclusions

So, to recap we have:

The Bloodworm Moon has an Umbral Magnitude of 1.18 (118%), meaning it will be deep enough into Earth's umbral shadow to take on a distinctive red tint, officially marking it as a Blood Moon. Historically, Blood Moons have carried inauspicious connotations. With a maximum possible Umbral Magnitude of ~2, this eclipse may not herald the coming of the Antichrist, but it will certainly be a lunar eclipse of notable intensity.

The Micromoon effect will stretch its influence over a longer duration, making its impact more drawn out and subtle rather than immediate and abrupt.

Eclipses are already associated with culmination, endings, and release. Historically, they have been highly inauspicious for financial markets, often correlating with losses and economic volatility. However, this eclipse is particularly ominous for the economy due to its tight conjunction with Ketu.

Ketu represents detachment, dissolution, and release. It frequently brings material loss as a way of forcing an ideological realignment. Therefore, some form of material loss is almost inevitable.

Where will this material loss be most concentrated? Most likely within the domain of Virgo. Virgo rules the 6th house, governing work, health, routines, and systems. More specifically, it connects to industries dealing with technology and infrastructure. Wherever instability, excess, or unsustainable growth exists within these domains, is what will get hit the hardest.

Eclipses can take effect well before their actual culmination date, especially when influenced by the stretching effects of a Micromoon. It’s clear that many of these significations have already been unfolding for sometime, with material loss in the market and economy, shifting sentiment toward products of real value, and a growing yearning for cultural renewal.

From here, one thing we can anticipate is that the Micromoon’s influence will result in a less dramatic peak rather than a sudden, overwhelming pulse.
