We have a partial solar eclipse occurring on March 29, 2025, casting its shadow over the Atlantic near Greenland. Solar eclipses are powerful astrological events that, depending on who you ask, can either be a blessing or a portent of disaster. Fortunately—or unfortunately—we get to experience them fairly often. Roughly twice a year, the Moon passes in front of the Sun, blocking its light in a phenomenon known as an occultation. This event is only possible due to a curiously suspicious cosmic coincidence—the size and relative distance of the Sun and Moon from the perspective of the Earth, causes them to appear nearly the same size in the sky. As the Moon passes in front of the Sun, this alignment makes it seem as if the Sun is being swallowed, resulting in a temporary blackout, no matter the time of day.

It’s no mystery that ancient societies saw the vanishing of the sun, plunging the world into sudden darkness as a precarious omen. From what we’ve preserved of ancient records, solar eclipses were believed to bring the death of kings, the collapse of states, and waves of social upheaval. In contrast, modern interpretations tend to paint solar eclipses as positive catalysts of new beginnings, transformation, and change. If eclipses truly have an impact, how can there be such a stark discrepancy in how they manifest?

The truth is, no two eclipses are the same. Many factors shape an eclipse’s influence—some of which lend to powerful new beginnings, others that herald doom, and sometimes, nothing seems to happen at all! In this writing, we’re peeling back the layers to examine the upcoming solar eclipse on March 29, 2025. Will it be a moment of celebration, or a time to shelter in a bunker with stockpile of canned beans? Only one way to find out.

Overview

When analyzing an eclipse, there are nearly infinite components to consider. The first step in delineation involves sifting through a sea of energetic noise, isolating the most relevant influences. Once we've identified the key factors, the next step is to weave them together into a cohesive narrative. Which elements amplify each other? Which counterbalance or diminish certain effects? Understanding these dynamics is key to grasping the eclipse’s true impact.

Here are some of the points that I believe are the most salient and worth bringing into the equation:

  1. Impact Zone - Maximum obscuration over the Atlantic near Greenland
  2. Partial Eclipse – 94% coverage at its maximum obscuration
  3. Orbital Velocity – Moon moves at moderate speed, influencing eclipses impact
  4. Eclipse Point at 8°48' Aries – fiery, aggressive energy tied to conflict, leadership, and new beginnings

I used a ~5-degree orb for aspects, which I believe is quite generous. I checked many points, including asteroids and esoteric points, but nothing seemed relevant enough to be worth factoring in.

Now, let’s break down each of these points into more detail.

1. The Impact Zone

The location of an eclipse is of critical importance because this is where its influence is strongest. As Ptolemy states in Tetrabiblos, Book II, Chapter 5:

"The region of the Earth upon which the eclipse falls, and in which it is visible above the horizon, is the one affected; and the more so where the eclipse is most complete."

While astrology is known to operate on multiple levels, location has become a lesser-emphasized factor in modern interpretations. The common view is that an eclipse influences the entire world simultaneously, with individual variations depending on where it lands in a birth chart. In their defense, we do live in a globalized world, and no matter where it occurs, its effects will reverberate throughout the world, especially if it impacts an influential region.

However, without turning this into a fully fledged research paper on the mechanics of astrology, the main takeaway is that: one of the primary ways an eclipse exerts its influence is through location and visibility. The areas where the eclipse is most visible will feel its effects the strongest.

The solar eclipse occurring on March 29th, 2025 will last from 08:50 to 12:43 GMT, with the maximum phase of the eclipse occurring at 10:47 GMT. It will reach maximum obscuration over the Atlantic near Greenland (61°07.8' N, 77°24.0' W), but will touch on areas of North America, South America, Europe, Western Russia, North of Asia, and North-Western Africa.

Note that the area where the eclipse reaches maximum obscuration is not particularly influential. However, a few regions are worth investigating—namely, Canada, and Greenland. Otherwise, the obscuration quickly diminishes as it extends into more globally significant areas.

As a result, this eclipse may not herald a major global event. However, there are still many other ways its influence can manifest in other parts of the world.

2. Partial Eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon, and Earth align (syzygy) in such a way that the moon blocks all or part of the suns light from reaching parts of the Earth. Solar eclipses always occur during new moons because that is when the moon is placed between the Earth and the Sun.

The type of eclipse we experience depends on the part of the lunar shadow that lands upon the earth, either the Umbra, Penumbra, or Antumbra.

The effect of the eclipse can be directly related to its magnitude or degree of obscuration. The more the area is obscured by the lunar shadow, the more powerful its impact. Therefore, total eclipses are the most powerful with 100% obscuration, annular eclipses less so, with ~90 to 99% obscuration (but never 100%), and partial eclipses are the weakest, ranging from 0% to ~99% obscuration.

The Solar eclipse on March 29th, 2025 is a partial eclipse that will reach up to 94% at its maximum obscuration. This is quite powerful for a partial eclipse, pushing the boundary of what partial eclipses are capable of. However, it is still in the partial eclipse "weight class," so we may not see the dramatic effects that our ancestors feared, yet it is still a solar eclipse of notable intensity.

3. Orbital Velocity

The Moon’s speed varies because of its elliptical orbit, shifting from 356,500 km at perigee (closest point) to 406,700 km at apogee (farthest point). This change in distance affects its velocity, which inversely correlates with distance—the closer the Moon to the Earth, the faster it moves. Here’s why:

The Moon’s orbital velocity plays a significant role in shaping how an eclipse’s effects unfold. A faster speed, near perigee, causes the eclipse to strike quickly and with greater intensity. In contrast, a slower speed, near apogee, leads to a longer, more drawn-out, and subtler impact. While, a moderate speed, between these extremes, results in an effect that falls somewhere in between.

Faster speeds result in a shorter more intense pules, while slower speeds result in a longer more drawn out, and subtler peak.

During the solar eclipse on March 29, 2025, the Moon is at approximately 375,000 k from Earth, just past apogee, so its speed is around 1.015–1.020 km/s (3,654–3,672 km/h), placing it in the Moderate range.

Therefore, its impact will come on fairly strongly but well within the extreme. Expect a moderate peak, moderate trough—strong enough to be impactful, but not as intense as a perigee eclipse.

4. Eclipse point at 8°48' Aries

Crab with knife

The solar eclipse occurs at 8°48' Aries, a cardinal fire sign known for its fiery, aggressive, and explosive nature. Aries is associated with war, leadership, action, vigor, movements, and new beginnings—all themes that closely align with the symbolism of a solar eclipse.

With the eclipse occurring here, we can expect an infusion of energy. Where causes may have previously been ignored or brushed aside, a spark now seems to catch. There is action, renewal, and a push to stand up for oneself. New leaders may emerge, people may speak up, and new ventures could take shape, but so could disruptions.

To understand how this energy will manifest, we must look at Mars, the ruler (depositor) of Aries. Mars is at 22°47' Cancer during this eclipse, its fall, meaning its energy is weakened, muted, or misdirected.

Mars in Cancer is not its usual direct, assertive self. Instead of bold action, it may act through emotional aggression, indirect conflict, or protective instincts. Impulsive actions may be restrained, leading to more brooding tension beneath the surface. Picture a crab wielding a knife—a warning not to overstep your bounds. This is especially relevant when considering the impact zones of this eclipse—Canada and Greenland—which we will explore in more detail below.

Verdict: Not doomed

Overall, the solar eclipse on March 29 is fairly chill. While solar eclipses can herald war and destruction, this one likely won’t. It’s a partial eclipse, reaching maximum obscuration high in the northern latitudes, far from most of the world. It will culminate at a moderate speed, meaning its impact won’t be too harsh for those most affected.

However, the eclipse occurs in Aries, which carries an explosive and aggressive nature. Aries is associated with war, leadership, action, vigor, movements, and new beginnings. But with its depositor, Mars, in Cancer—its sign of fall—its significations are weakened and suppressed, altering how the eclipse expresses itself. We may see leaders rising up, aggression, movements for a cause, and the severing of old relationships, but these actions are responses to overstepping boundaries and infringements on autonomy rather than attempts to exacerbate tensions.

This is a new beginning, a shift in identity, and a strengthening of character for those most affected. And there’s no clearer manifestation of this than in Canada and Greenland—two countries deep in the impact zone.

The Goose bites back

Canada has recently been challenged by U.S. hegemony. What began as a trade war quickly escalated when the U.S. attempted to coerce Canada into becoming the 51st U.S. state, infringing on its autonomy. Canadians were understandably outraged, collectively booing as the US national anthem played at a hockey tournament, as well as removing American goods from their shops in masse.

The Canadian government, under Prime Minister Trudeau’s leadership, viewed President Trump's annexation remarks as a serious threat to national sovereignty. On January 7, 2025, Trudeau stated, "There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States." He condemned the tariffs as "entirely unjustified" and "unacceptable," He adopted an approach that sought to avoid escalating tensions, emphasizing that Canada would work with the U.S. administration to highlight the negative impacts these tariffs had on both countries. Trudeau also indicated that, if necessary, Canada would respond firmly and clearly to protect its workers and industries.

Following Trudeau's resignation amid the escalating trade tensions, Mark Carney was sworn in as Canada’s 24th Prime Minister following the Liberal Party leadership election. In response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s March 11 announcement of increased tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum (from 25% to 50%), Carney’s government acted swiftly with retaliatory tariffs on CAD$29.8 billion (US$20.7 billion) of U.S. goods, signaling a firm stance that Canada will retaliate.

In a recent video, Mark Carney warned that the old U.S.-Canada relationship is over. Canada is actively redefining its relationship with the U.S. and dramatically reducing its reliance on them. In the process, Canada has sparked a shift in it's identity, moving away from its historically amicable nature, where it once resembled an extension of the U.S.

Greenland isn't "Green" because of its color

Meanwhile, in Greenland, a similar story is unfolding. Tensions between the U.S. and Greenland escalated after Trump expressed interest in annexing Greenland. On Truth Social, he wrote: “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.” Trump's desire to acquire Greenland stems from its strategic geopolitical location and its vast natural resources.

Greenland’s position in the Arctic is important for U.S. national security. It serves as a crucial point for ballistic missile warning systems and monitoring key maritime routes, particularly in response to an increasing Russian presence in the region.

Beyond its strategic significance, Greenland is rich in untapped natural resources, including minerals, oil, and natural gas. As climate change accelerates the melting of ice, these resources are becoming more accessible, presenting significant economic opportunities.

When Trump attempted to buy Greenland, both Denmark and Greenland's local government firmly responded that the island was not for sale. Trump has since claimed that the U.S. will inevitably take control of the island regardless, leading to heightened tensions with both Denmark and Greenland, who value their autonomy and oppose any change in sovereignty.

The situation worsened when Vice President J.D. Vance planned to visit Greenland. Greenland’s Prime Minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, criticized the visit for its lack of respect for Greenland’s sovereignty. This sentiment was reiterated by all five political parties in Greenland’s parliament, which issued a joint statement opposing U.S. control over the island. In early March 2025, anti-American protests erupted in Nuuk and other towns, marking some of the largest demonstrations Greenland has seen.

This all coincides with Greenland's ongoing efforts to gain greater autonomy from Denmark. In the March 2025 Greenlandic parliamentary elections, the Demokraatit Party, led by Jens-Frederik Nielsen, secured around 30% of the vote, advocating for gradual independence from Denmark. The Naleraq Party, led by Pele Broberg, received about 25%, calling for immediate independence.

Therefore, we see a very similar situation, where U.S. hegemony is flexing its power, but now over Greenland, severing its once positive relationship. This is prompting Greenland to assert more autonomy in the future. The infringement upon Greenland’s sovereignty is sparking a transformation in its identity, accelerating efforts towards independence from both the US and Denmark.

Conclusions

To wrap this up, we see that the solar eclipse occurring on March 29th is exerting its effects prominently over Canada and Greenland. A new beginning is underway, prompting them to answer the question: Who are they as nations? Are they pawns to be pushed around and forced to submit under pressure, or are they independent societies that respect their sovereignty? Their identity is shifting. Their alliances are shifting. Their tactics are shifting.

A solar eclipse in Aries can be difficult. It invites conflict and challenges, however it also strengthens resolve, builds character, and creates a vacuum that allows leaders to rise. And that’s exactly what we’ve seen in Canada and Greenland.

The eclipse is not over yet, and its influence will reverberate for some time afterward. Thankfully, this eclipse isn’t so devastating, so it’s unlikely that things will escalate much further.
