Ode to Contrapuntos, or Remembrance
written by NftEconomist
It made me think about why we collect art, why some works resonate so deeply with so many people. I believe it has to do with meanings they convey, associations, memories and thoughts they invoke, the way they communicate with us, the way we respond to them.
Marcelo Soria-Rodriguez composed Contrapuntos as a reflection of “intertwining rhythms of every activity we carry on in our lives”. It is an abstraction of our days filled with countless moments, light and dark, big and small, messy and ordered, silent and loud, related and disrupted, seemingly separate, yet evolving into a whole and beautiful fabric that we call our life. Taking inspiration from musical counterpoint there is an element of playfulness and joy about it.
Contrapuntos was minted during the first weeks of fx(hash) in November 2021, and soon became legendary among early collectors, largely generative artists, coders, and blockchain developers. They praised the variety across iterations, the uniqueness, and the cohesiveness of the collection. And yet it always felt to me that there is more to it. Something that goes beyond code, aesthetics, symbolism or time it came into being.
What is the secret of your beauty? I'm asking Contrapuntos.
Its response is always just a calming smile.
Maybe there are no secrets to unveil, nothing to understand.
Maybe Contrapuntos is just reminding us of who we are, of the joy of life.
Maybe it is just as simple as that.
A little ode comes to my mind. I call it Remembrance.
There is a light from within me, illuminating all I am. There is a light that forgives all. It’s full of laughter and of joy. And, when I dive into this light, all thinking stops, and being starts.
I dedicate it to Contrapuntos.
