Mastering the Quantum Mind
written by Michael Nicolao...
I sorely underestimated the power of my thoughts. I indulged in an unhealthy amount of self-deprecation. I mistakenly believed I was doing myself a favor by keeping my ego in check. I was unaware of the profound effects these behaviors had on both my well-being and my reality.
Most of us acknowledge that thoughts possess some degree of power, but defining the extent of that power has been challenging. Their difficult to grasp nature has led to misunderstandings and underestimations. The prevailing belief is that thoughts are some combination of chemicals and neurons, restricted within the confines of our brain and skull. This perspective can be traced back to the 17th century where René Descartes posited that our minds and bodies are separate entities.
However, while this dualistic view might still find acceptance in conventional wisdom, scientific advances have long moved past it. Contrary to Descartes' theory, our body and mind are intertwined. We are all intertwined, and interconnected in a vast web of energy. Thoughts aren't confined to our brain and skull; they extend beyond those boundaries. Nor do we create our thoughts; we encounter them. Intriguingly, thoughts even have a tangible form and can leave an imprint on us.
These assertions might seem outlandish, but that's primarily because the quantum realm operates on outlandish principles. Our minds, fundamentally, are quantum energy, and function based on the same quantum principles as subatomic particles. The only reason these concepts are not already common knowledge is because we are still operating on an outdated model of the world developed by Isaac Newton over 300 years ago!
The Crux of Classical Mechanics
The conventional view of the world can be traced back to the late 17th century with Isaac Newton's "Principia." This groundbreaking work introduced his three laws of motion and the law of universal gravitation, fundamentally reshaping our understanding of the world. These laws were considered the foundational principles of nature, and Newtonian mechanics was regarded as the ultimate theory of natural phenomena.
These laws reinforced the concepts of absolute time and space, as well as the idea that physical phenomena were strictly causal. In other words, everything could be described objectively. The world was perceived as nothing more than a machine, where all entities existed independently of each other. During Newton's time, many scientists even believed that all significant scientific discoveries had already been made, and there was little left to do in the field of scientific exploration!
However, in the early 19th century, new physical phenomena were discovered that could not be described by Newtonian physics. On the subatomic level, particles behaved in bizarre ways. They exhibited non-locality, where particles once in contact always remained in contact through all space and time. Perhaps even stranger, the observer effect suggested that nothing in the universe existed as an actual thing independent of our perception of it. Particles existed in a state of potentiality, until observed or measured, at which point they would be forced into a set state. But most importantly, subatomic particles had no meaning in isolation, but only in relationship with everything else.
Underpinning this quantum phenomena is the zero-point field theory. The zero-point field theory suggests that there is no such thing as a vacuum or empty space. What we believed was empty space is actually a vast underlying sea of energy. No particle ever stays completely at rest because it is constantly in motion due to this ground state field of energy constantly interacting with all subatomic matter. Hal Puthoff showed mathematically that electrons are able to tap into this field in order to keep their orbit in a state of equilibrium. The zero-point field quite literally acts as the framework which holds everything in our physical world together. Without the zero-point field, all atomic structure would collapse.
These advances shook the very foundation of our understanding of reality. We are not so disconnected as Newton implied, but on the contrary, all intricately interconnected within a vast field of energy. Curiously, the findings by these scientists seemed to align with long-standing beliefs such as the Chinese concept of chi, the Indian prana, and the Polynesian mana—that there was some subtle, vitalizing force permeating throughout the universe. Quantum mechanics was doing the unthinkable; it was potentially providing a scientific explanation for the spiritual.
The Quantum Mind
The breakthroughs in quantum mechanics should have fundamentally changed the prevailing scientific world view, scraping the belief that the world, and ourselves, are nothing more than sophisticated machines. However, unsurprisingly (when in history have revolutionary ideas ever been readily embraced?), these concepts were deemed treasonous. For years, scientists engaged in this field had to fight against a hostile establishment. Their findings went largely unacknowledged or suppressed, despite the high quality of their work. Nevertheless, research carried on by those bold enough to challenge the status quo.
The following are a few notable findings that provide clues into the quantum nature of the human mind:
- Our memories, (and potentially all of our higher cognitive processes, including consciousness) are not stored within the brain, but within the zero-point field. Beginning with Karl Lashley’s work trying to find the exact seat of memories in the brain, and culminating with Karl Pribam who followed in his footsteps, it was discovered that the brain works as a “highly discriminating frequency analyzer,” a receiving mechanism for cognitive processes, which translates and transforms wave interference patterns encoded within the zero-point field, using the same process as in optical holography. (McTaggart)
- Focused intention can influence the RNG behavior of a machine. Robert Jahn, a professor of engineering, and Brenda Dunne, a developmental psychologist, designed a rigorous scientific study involving a REG (Random Event Generator) machine. When a button was pressed, the machine displayed 200 binary 'hits' of 1 or 0. During this process, participants attempted to influence the machine's output solely through their intention. After the first 5,000 trials, it was discovered that people were able to statistically significantly affect the random behavior of the machines through an act of will. (McTaggart)
- Focused intention can influence the direction of fish, speed up gerbils, and protect human red blood cells. Braud enlisted some volunteers, to see if they could change the direction of a knife fish (a fish which emits an electrical signal used for navigational purposes), speed up gerbils running on treadmills, and protect human blood cells (by slowing their rate of hemolysis) simply by wishing. All these studies were met with success. Braids volunteers had been able to change the direction of fish, speed up gerbils, and protect human red blood cells to a significant extent. (Braud)
- Humans react to the effects of staring at a distance (through a Camcorder from someone in another room, two hallways and four doors away). Braud gathered participants and attached them to silver chloride palmar electrodes, a skin resistance amplifier, and a computer. The only other equipment used was a Hitachi Color Camcorder VM-2250, which was used to observe another individual in a separate room. Braud conducted these experiments 16 times, and in most cases, those being stared at exhibited significantly greater electrodermal activity during the staring sessions than would be expected by chance (59 percent compared to the expected 50 percent), even though they were not consciously aware of it. (Schlitz and Braud)
These findings suggest that on our most fundamental level, we are composed of the same basic quantum energy, in constant exchange of information with an inexhaustible energy field. Our minds operate according to quantum processes, and our thoughts are not confined within the bounds of our brain and skull; they can be transmitted, and received non-locally, exerting an influence on ourselves, others, and our physical reality.
As above, so below
Subtle energy is the term used to refer to subtle quantum forces that cannot be directly observed with the physical senses, or measured using conventional equipment. However, the absence of equipment to directly measure these energies does not negate their existence, just as bacteria existed before the invention of the microscope. Although subtle energies and their structures cannot be seen or measured directly, their existence can be demonstrated because they generate electric and magnetic signals with observable effects.
Some evidence of subtle energies includes the following:
- Use of various magnetic devices, such as the superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID), for perceiving electromagnetic energies beyond the bound of the body.
- A process that embeds a human intention onto a simple electrical device, thus showing the effects of thought on physicality. (Ledwith and Heinemann)
- Various experiments using inorganic, organic, and living materials that reveal a unique, secondary level of physical reality affected by human intention. (Tiller)
- Measurement of the meridian and chakra systems, representative subtle channels, and energy bodies, revealing that they operate at higher levels of electromagnetism than the rest of the body. (Tiller)
- Experimentation that shows that the human biofield operates at a unique level of physical reality. (Ledwith and Heinemann)
Dr. William tiller, a well-respected researcher, physicist, and expert on subtle energy. His research has led him to state the following about subtle energies:
- Subtle energies are manifested by people, as revealed in experiments that show subtle energies can increase electron sizes and numbers
- A person can direct the flow of this energy through intention
- This mind-electron interaction is effective even over great distances
In, "The Science of Homeopathy," Dr. William Tiller explains the properties of physical energies in contrast to subtle energies:
“Physical energy manifests in the positive timespace frame, is electrical in nature, and has positive mass. It travels slower than the speed of light and gives rise to gravity. This means that you can see it.
Subtle energy, however, occupies the next timespace frame (or other timespace frames), manifests in the negative time space frame and has negative mass. It is magnetic in nature and travels faster than the speed of light. It gives rise to what some call levitational force. This means that you can’t see it, but can note its seemingly paranormal effects.”
According to Tiller, subtle energies appear to follow an opposing set of principles to those governing physical energies. In the realm of physical energies, we observe: positive timespace occupation, entropy increases, potentiality decreases, and attraction between opposite electrical charges (positive and negative). However, when it comes to subtle energies, we witness the opposite: negative time space occupation, entropy decreases, potentiality increases, and a magnetic quality where they attract each other. The mirroring properties of the energies in these different domains lends credence to the age-old philosophical axiom “as above, so below.”
Law of Attraction
Human beings are constantly receiving and emitting subtle energies, such as in the form of thoughts. According to Dr. Tiller, these subtle energies possess a magnetic property. It then is not too big of a jump to imply that the subtle energies you emit (your thoughts) are the same type of subtle energies that you attract. In other words, you attract the essence of what you think about, a concept commonly known as The Law of Attraction, which can be easily experienced anecdotally.
Think of yourself as a radio tower constantly emitting and receiving signals. Your thoughts are your point of attraction. When you entertain a particular thought, you draw in more of those types of thoughts. Your emotions are your indicator of your point of attraction. In essence, your emotions function as a guidance system, providing insights into what you are currently attracting. Your base emotional state represents your emotional set point and can be likened to the radio station you are tuned into.
If your emotional set point is depression, you will feel depressed, and you will attract depressive thoughts. If your emotional set point is happiness, you will feel happy, and you will attract happy thoughts.
Here are the various emotional set points, more or less:
- Joy/Knowledge/Empowerment/Freedom/Love/Appreciation
- Passion
- Enthusiasm/Eagerness/Happiness
- Positive Expectation/Belief
- Optimism
- Hopefulness
- Contentment
- Boredom
- Pessimism
- Frustration/Irritation/Impatience
- “Overwhelment”
- Disappointment
- Doubt
- Worry
- Blame
- Discouragement
- Anger
- Revenge
- Hatred/Rage
- Jealousy
- Insecurity/Guilt/Unworthiness
- Fear/Grief/Depression/Despair/Powerlessness
Your emotional set point operates like a gauge. This means that if your current emotional set point is depression, you won't immediately be able to skip to Happiness. You'll have to traverse through the spectrum of emotional states. In other words, if you're feeling depressed, you'll have to first navigate through emotions like jealousy, then anger, followed by discouragement, and so on, until you eventually reach a more desirable state, such as happiness.
You can achieve this by consciously reaching for the best-feeling thought available to you. Regardless of where you currently stand emotionally, you'll always have two types of thoughts within your reach: one that feels better and one that feels worse. By consistently choosing the best-feeling thought accessible to you, you can gradually adjust the gauge of your emotional set point. Over time, this allows you to ascend the emotional ladder, improving your emotional state, and attracting more positive thoughts.
Dissociated Thought Forms
In the studies conducted by Karl Lashley’s and Karl Pribam on memory, we understand that our memories, (and potentially all of our higher cognitive processes, including consciousness) are not stored within the brain, but within the zero-point field, and operate by quantum processes. This suggests that, fundamentally, we are a field of quantum or subtle energy. This gives credence to the concept of the aura, a field of subtle energy, believed to envelop and extend beyond the physical body, reflecting our overall health and state of mind.
When we hold onto thoughts, memories, or beliefs with emotional intensity, whether stemming from traumatic events, or recurring thought patterns we've engaged in over time, these beliefs manifest as tangible forms and become imprinted within our energy field. These inhibiting beliefs are referred to as dissociated thought forms. They are a form of repressed energy, and can be likened to emotional baggage. They subtly affect us on an unconscious level and powerfully affect us once triggered into conscious awareness.
Barbara Ann Brennan, a former NASA physicist and renowned healer who has since passed away, developed clairvoyance, which means she could see beyond the typical reach of the visible spectrum, allowing her to perceive auras. In her book “Hands of Light, she said, “Thought forms are energetic, observable realities which radiate colors at various intensities.”
These thought forms are created and maintained through habitual semi-conscious thoughts and feelings. Their form is a result of the clarity of the thought. The more clear the thought, the more definite the form. Their color, intensity, and power, are a result of the strength of the associated emotions involved.
These thought forms lay dormant within the aura subtly influencing thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. However, they can emerge into conscious awareness once something triggers them. These triggers could be unintentional situations, events, or thoughts that resonate with the thought form. Alternatively, they can intentionally be triggered with mindfulness practices, such as meditation. Once triggered, the thoughts and emotions associated with the thought form enter conscious awareness.
If the thought form has a particularly strong emotional intensity associated with it, and the individual avoids expressing those emotions by redirecting their thoughts, this can result in a cyclical thought pattern. Within this cycle, the individual may avoid confronting the reality of the thought form by resorting to blame, distorting their perception of reality, engaging in self-judgment, and similar tactics. This cyclical thought pattern then plays out, until the thought form recedes back into the unconscious, awaiting a trigger to resurface.
For the thought form to be effectively released, the associated emotion needs to be fully expressed. If the individual holds the thought associated with the thought form long enough to express the emotions, they can release the emotions, and connect to deeper levels of the thought form where the inhibiting beliefs become evident. From there, the inhibiting beliefs can be altered over time, using techniques such as positive affirmations. As a result, the negative aspects shift into positive ones and are integrated into the person's aura as formless, bright, and clear colors.
Conclusion
The advent of Quantum Mechanics opened up Pandora's box, completely flipping our understanding of the world up on its head. In contrast to Newton's prevailing beliefs of a disconnected, objective, mechanistic universe, we have discovered that we are all interconnected in a vast web of energy, where bizarre phenomena underlie every aspect of our existence. What we once dismissed as superstition in the past is now being substantiated by science.
Among these bizarre phenomena are our thoughts. Thoughts possess far greater power than we previously comprehended. They can shape our reality, influence our emotional state, and even take on tangible forms. In this quantum age, we have only begun to scratch the surface of comprehending the inner workings of our minds, and even more our consciousnesses, our essence. Nevertheless, through the pioneering efforts of those who dared to challenge the status quo, we have gained profound insights into the inner processes of the mind, and how to harness its potential for our benefit.
