New platform features

— Serving optimized images

As an art platform serving image content to thousands of users daily, it's our duty to serve and display this content in the best possible way. That’s why, last week, we rolled out a significant feature to improve and optimize how we serve and display image media on the fxhash website.

You’ll notice there are now blurred placeholders when you scroll through a collection — this is because our new system receives image details as soon as we get the data from the API, enabling the front end to display a placeholder at the correct resolution while we fetch the media.

The result is way faster browsing times on any device (mobile included) and dramatically improves the quality of the content served when browsing the platform, especially for older tokens with a 256x256 thumbnail resolution!

For more on this highlighted update, read our full-length explainer here on how we tackled the problem and devised a unique solution: fxhash - [dev update] Optimizing images

— Toggleable masonry layout for browsing iterations

Some projects have collections consisting of variously sized outputs. These outputs can be, at times, relatively uniform, but for specific collections, the size variation can get pretty wild, leading to gaps and empty screen space when viewing iterations assembled in the collection view.

We've integrated a toggleable masonry layout to create a more aesthetically pleasing collection browsing experience. It’s toggled to off by default to enhance data scanning, but you can easily switch it on at any time.

Notice that in the above, each subsequent row rises to fill in the gap to account for differences in output size. What do you think about this new layout option? Tag @fxhash team in Discord to let us know your thoughts!

— Site-wide search bar

We’ve added a site-wide search bar to the website header (i.e., the area at the top of the page where the navigation buttons, such as explore, are found). Quite frankly, we’re in love with this new feature because of how effortless yet powerful searching from any page has become, and are keen on the way it sorts and classifies different search results (such as generative tokens, articles, marketplace, and gentk iterations) to make discovery intuitive and accurate.

— Insert audio when creating fx(text) articles

When creating an article using fx(text), you have several options for media insertion & embeds — but before this update, audio was not one of them. We recognize that audio is an essential medium for sharing the emerging practice of generative music, podcasts and interviews, and other unforeseen, equally crucial uses, so please enjoy this new addition to fx(text) functionality.

— The collect button is now on top of articles

You're not alone if you’ve been struggling to find the collect button to buy an fx(text) article. That’s because we placed the original collect button at the bottom of the article, a placement we now recognize was not entirely intuitive.

We’ve repositioned the collect button to the top of articles to remedy that and make it easier for collectors to collect articles quickly without wandering around the page.

— Set NSFW and Epilepsy trigger filters

Whether you’re scrolling the fxhash explore feed on a work break or with your kids around, there are times when you can’t afford to have NSFW content appear on your screen.

Now, you can quickly filter out projects with NSFW and epilepsy tags on the explore page to exercise more control over the content you see. Moreover, roughly 3 in 100 people live with epilepsy that can be triggered by flashing/flickering lights. If you or someone you know lives with this condition, you’re aware of just how important it is to avoid exposure to these triggers.

Now, you can quickly filter out projects with NSFW and epilepsy tags on the explore page to exercise more control over the content you see.

SavePakistan relief fund added to donations list

As originally posted in this announcement by Teia

In late August, a torrential monsoon triggered the biggest climate-related disaster in history: A third of Pakistan's landmass is submerged in water, affecting tens of millions of people, destroying crops and washing away houses, hospitals, and schools. To date, more than 1,500 people have lost their lives to the floods, including 552 children. Currently, 73% of the flood victims have inadequate access to necessities like food, water, and medical aid.

To show our solidarity and support for the people of Pakistan, we’ve added the SavePakistan Crypto Fund to the optional donations list you can choose from when creating a fxhash generative art project or fx(text) article.

Visit SavePakistan if you’d like to learn more about the climate-caused disaster currently faced by Pakistanis as you consider donating a portion of your project revenues to the fund.

Bug fixes & improvements

🔧 We’re constantly hunting for bugs to fix and minor improvements to make (that can make an outsized difference in your fxhash experience 😊). These fixes are often the result of community feedback, so please keep pinging us when you notice something is amiss!

Q2—Q3 recap

📊 For those who’ve never heard of Q2 or Q3, they’re a convenient (and corporate 😆) way of referring to financial quarters. Q2 and Q3 encompass the spring, summer, and fall months. In that time, a lot happened for fxhash as a platform and community, so let’s revisit some of the highlights and talk about a few key metrics we’re excited to share!

— Live Minting Experience

Over the past several months, fxhash debuted at many well-known art events, including the revered globetrotting art fair Art Basel.

At these events, we explored generative art’s potential to connect digital art with in-person experiences in significant and exciting ways. It’s now clearer than ever that generative art is uniquely capable of limitlessly expanding the reach of who can create, collect, and curate art. After all, generative art is art for everyone.

To support these ambitions and create a very robust, intuitive, and modular system for Live Minting, we’ve developed and refined a pipeline that makes fxhash-powered Live Minting Experiences straightforward and accessible to implement at any scale.
