A few years ago, I remember daydreaming about crystals while I was sitting at my desk. I imagined how cool it would be to have a big geode of amethyst as the centerpiece on a table. However, I wasn’t sold on the purely aesthetic appeal of it. Personally, I preferred when things had a practical purpose, and I didn’t believe crystals did anything. Even a plant can purify the air.

How do Crystals work?

I later discovered that crystals actually do serve a practical purpose in everyday life due to a property they have known as the Piezoelectric Effect. Through the Piezoelectric Effect mechanical energy can be transduced (transformed) into electromagnetic energy and vice versa.

In layman's terms, when crystals are charged with electromagnetic energy, they begin to vibrate and emit waves of energy. Quartz crystals are used inside the mechanism of wristwatches for this reason. When an electrical voltage is applied to the crystal (usually from a battery), it begins to vibrate at a specific frequency due to the Piezoelectric Effect. The watch’s electronic circuitry then measures these vibrations and converts them into accurate time keeping signals.

Conversely, when crystals are exposed to waves of energy, they absorb the wave, and become charged with energy. Crystal radio receivers operate solely on the energy they receive from radio waves. The crystals inside these radio receivers are able to convert the electromagnetic energy of the radio signal into sound waves, which are then audible to the listener.

Types of Energy

All types of energy can be categorized into one of two groups: Veritable, which can be measured, or Putative, which cannot be measured by conventional instruments.

Veritable energies are physical in nature, and hence, can be measured. It includes sound and electromagnetic forces, such as visible light, magnetism, and rays from the electromagnetic spectrum.

Our body produces or is affected by all these energies, and requires a specific amount of each part of the electromagnetic spectrum in order to stay in balance. Too much or too little of any particular stratum of the spectrum, and you can become imbalanced, sick, or worse.

Modern medicine tracks the electromagnetic signals within the body in order to diagnose issues:

• Electrocardiography (EKG) : An EKG records the electrical activity of the heart. Electrodes placed on the skin detect the heart's electrical impulses and create a graphical representation of the heart's rhythm and health.
• Electroencephalogram (EEG) : EEG measures the electrical activity in the brain. It is used to diagnose conditions like epilepsy, monitor brain function during surgery, and study sleep disorders.
• Electromyography (EMG) : EMG records the electrical activity of muscles. It helps diagnose neuromuscular disorders, nerve injuries, and muscle diseases.

Putative, or Subtle, energies cannot be perceived except through their effects. These energies occupy a space, and run at a frequency that cannot be measured by modern instruments. These include the vital life energies which have been studied and documented by various cultures throughout the ages:

• Chi or Qi (气): Chi or qi is the traditional Chinese concept of vital energy that flows through the body and the universe.
• Prana : In Hindu philosophy and yogic traditions, prana is the vital life force or energy that animates living beings and the cosmos.
• Ki : This is the Japanese equivalent of the Chinese chi. In Japan, it is often associated with martial arts and healing practices like Reiki.
• Mana : In Polynesian and Hawaiian cultures, mana is a spiritual energy or power that can be found in people, objects, and the natural world.
• Lung : In Tibetan Buddhism, lung (also spelled lungta) is a term for the subtle energy that governs the body and mind.
• Ruach : In Kabbalistic Judaism, ruach is the term for the life force or breath of God that animates all living things.
• Baraka : In Islamic and North African Sufi traditions, baraka is a form of spiritual energy or blessing that can be transmitted from person to person.
• Odic Force : This term was used by Franz Mesmer, a pioneer in the field of animal magnetism (a precursor to hypnosis), to describe a supposed vital force or energy.
• Etheric Energy : In some New Age and metaphysical beliefs, etheric energy is thought to be a subtle, vital energy that exists in the ether, a hypothetical medium that was once believed to fill all of space.
• Orgone Energy : This concept was developed by Wilhelm Reich, who believed that orgone energy was a universal life force that could be harnessed for various purposes.

All these terms essentially describe the same esoteric concept - the existence of some sort of subtle energy. However, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of different types of subtle energies, that both emanate from and influence the human body. Maintaining a harmonious balance among these energies is crucial for overall well-being.

Experiments in the Ether

With all this in mind, it is not too big a stretch to imagine that crystals may be capable of influencing, not only electromagnetic energies, but also subtler forms of energy.

In 2022, I personally experienced the metaphysical properties of different crystals. I then discovered “The Book of Stones” by Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian, a comprehensive reference guide on crystals and gemstones, and began experimenting with various types of crystals. Through my experimentation's, I was able to induce some bizarre experiences, which went beyond what I could have possibly anticipated.

Honey Calcite

The first crystal I had an intriguing experience with was Honey Calcite. I learned that it could enhance mental clarity, concentration, and a sense of grounding. At the time, I had been mostly grabbing smaller tumbled stones, however, I decided to get a large piece of honey calcite because my attention span resembled that of a squirrel.

This was a big stone, which I could not merely put into my pocket or wear around my neck, so I decided to meditate with it while using a technique known as visualization, which involves envisioning the energies of the crystal in your minds eye, in order to enhance the desired effects.

I initiated a meditation by sitting cross legged on the floor, holding the Honey Calcite over my chest. I closed my eyes, and then visualized the crystal's energy absorbing into my body. After about 20 minutes, I concluded the meditation, only to realize that I had inadvertently overstimulated myself with energy! Until that moment, my experiences with crystals had been subtle. However, this time, it felt as if I had consumed several shots of espresso! I was astonished to realize that I didn't need such a large piece after all.

Celestite

This is when things started to get pretty bizarre. I had bought a crystal called Celestite after learning that it could help you access the angelic realm and communicate with one's guardian angels. I was skeptical to say the least, but after having prior experiences with crystals, what did I have to lose?

Apparently, you could do this by setting intentions, and then placing the stone under your pillow before going to sleep. That night, I followed the instructions, and to my surprise, I had a remarkably vivid dream:

I was transported into an ethereal realm, reclining on a bed surrounded by beautiful people bustling about. Suddenly, a male voice, originating from an unseen source, spoke in a frustrated tone, referring to me as a, "Lazy crypto bro," and mentioning, "He doesn’t even know about our people - The Numina." While feeling perplexed, a woman beside me offered reassurance by gently stroking my hair, and telling me that it was all going to be okay. Unexpectedly, I noticed a baby bat on my pillow, slowly approaching my head. The woman quickly spotted it, exclaimed, "Let's get this beast out of here," and promptly took the bat from my pillow, jolting me awake*.*

As I reflected on my dream, I thought that there was no way this was just a figment of imagination. The term “crypto bro” was not in my vernacular, and frankly, I was offended. Also, the term “Numina” was completely unfamiliar to me. I did some research on the term Numina, and discovered that it is the plural form of "Numen," a Latin term that refers to the divine presence or divinity.

I was astounded at this realization. I then began compiling a list of stones that sounded particularly interesting in "The Book of Stones," by Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian. Among the many stones that had caught my attention, there was one in particular that I was aching to get my hands on called Moldavite.

Moldavite

Moldavite is not your typical rock. It’s a green tektite, a type of natural glass, that formed when a meteorite crash landed on the Earth’s surface 15 million years ago. It's only found in one part of the world, an area between southern Germany and a region of the Czech Republic, and hence, is pretty rare.

I had first encountered this stone while reading “The Book of Stones” by Robert Simmons & Naisha Ahsian. You could say Robert Simmons is a fan of Moldavite considering how often he mentions the stone throughout his book. He also dedicates a significant section of the book praising it, sharing a miraculous anecdotal story about how the stone initiated him into the metaphysical properties of stones, and completely changed his life.

After reading about his experiences, I did some research, and read countless other anecdotal stories about Moldavite's effects which varied widely, from mild to overwhelming. However, the common denominator seemed to be the acceleration of one's spiritual evolution.

The next time I visited the crystal shop, I mentioned Moldavite, not expecting them to carry it - it was a rare magical extraterrestrial stone. What was the chance they carried it in my small local crystal shop? To my surprise, they had a single piece in stock. I was told it had been returned by its previous owner because its energy had been too intense for them.

The worker brought it out, and then handed it to me. It was no bigger than a dime. As I held it in my palm, I could feel heat emanating from it. It was unlike anything I had experienced with any other stone. I couldn't resist the temptation to see what would happen if I worked with it. However, I would be lying if I didn’t say I was a bit apprehensive.

I told the shop worker I was unsure if I was ready for it. She reassured me that I was capable of handling it, even though it had the potential to dismantle everything in your life. She told me that its effects were ultimately benevolent, leading to positive changes. When I asked how much it cost, I was astounded to learn that it just went through a surge in pricing after going viral on TikTok. I figured if teenagers on TikTok were using it, I shouldn’t have anything to worry about, so I bought it.

Despite my recent experiences with stones and the many anecdotal stories I read, I still had a sense of skepticism when it came to Moldavite. That night, despite bringing the stone into my life to transform it for the better, I succumbed to the temptation of a bad habit I was trying to break, stating condescendingly, "It's just a rock, I can do what I want."

After I went to bed, I had a vivid nightmare: I thought I was awake and in my room. Suddenly, wind started blowing aggressively all over my bedroom as if spirits were made at me! I woke up sweating and realized that it was only a dream! However, I understood the message loud and clear, that this was not something to mess around with*.*

I was afraid to do anything with it at first. I eased into it by meditating with it, expecting something spontaneous to occur, but nothing did. After a few days, I began having trouble sleeping, and I realized it was because the crystal was stimulating me. The Moldavite was emitting an energy so powerful that it was evidently stimulating me, and not only me, but everyone in its vicinity, including my dog! My dog looked visibly uncomfortable near it, inching to the furthest possible area on my bed away from the location of the crystal!

I started removing it from my room during the night, so I could get some sleep, and then brought it back near me during the day. Eventually, I worked up the courage to wear it. However, I could only handle it for a few hours at a time as the vibrations it produced in my body were so intense, that it made me feel nauseous. Over time, I gradually built up my tolerance to it, increasing the duration of time I could handle it, until I was able to wear it for the entire day.

It affected me in many different ways. It gave me more power over myself to overcome bad habits and form good ones. It increased my sense of self worth and confidence. It dissolved feelings of melancholy and uplifted my mood. Most remarkably, it appeared to heighten the frequency of synchronicities, serendipitous occurrences, and meaningful symbolic events in my life.

One day, I decided to meditate with the Moldavite again. I sat cross legged on my desk chair, and then closed my eyes. However, after just 10 minutes, I felt a powerful rush of energy as if something paranormal was about to occur. The sensation was so overwhelming that it terrified me, so I immediately stopped meditating, and resisted it. Later that night, I was so afraid of something weird happening that I couldn't bring myself to turn off the lights.

I layed in my bed with the lights on until I passed out at around four in the morning*.* Immediately, I had a vivid dream: Once again, I thought I was awake and in my room. However, I found myself in the company of an entity! It terrified me, and I believe it sensed that, and didn’t intend to scare me, so it left my room. I then jumped out of my bed, and chased after it.

As I followed it, the lights flickered throughout my home erratically. The pursuit led me to the entrance of my garage, where the enigmatic being stood. I then caught my first clear glimpse of it - a person-shaped entity composed of a constellation of stars.

I shouted, "Who are you?!" In an instant, a beautiful woman with long hair, wearing a dress materialized to my left. She was accompanied by a short male assistant, who looked like a gnome, with thick bushy eyebrows, and clutching what appeared to be a scroll or clipboard. The woman answered, “It’s your gram” (my colloquial term for grandma). I was taken aback by her answer, as my grandmother had recently passed away. Suddenly, I awoke in my bed, as if the entire encounter had been nothing more than a figment of my imagination.

Things continued to get increasingly bizarre. I was unsure if the rest of my life was going to exist in this state, and became overwhelmed. I wanted to retreat back into the mundane world where everything made sense, and nothing was magical!

Miraculously, from that point onward, things gradually returned to normal. Naturally, after everything had returned to normal, I found myself yearning to rekindle the magic. I compulsively wore the Moldavite, hoping for something spontaneous to occur. However, to my disappointment, nothing happened. The stone was no longer emitting the stimulating energy that had kept me awake at night.
