Eikonal
From Greek εἰκών (pronounce eikôn), meaning "image, resemblance". In French there is only "image", no "picture".
The etymology for image is interesting also. It is believed to come from the old Latin imago which have blurry origins (. Used to designate something molded like a mortuary mask or a statue. But it also have the meaning of ghost, echo, appearance.
εἰκών and εἰκόνια brought the word icon, which was used for hundred of years as a word to designate a religious work of art.
In computing, icon also designates a pictogram on the computer screen, usually interactive and allowing a functionality for the user.
