e-scapes: generative ai artworks on Ethereum
written by joey zaza
The Emergent Properties OpenMarket Beta rages on. Ethereum has been added as a blockchain, so anyone who has a MemberToken can mint their own generative ai artworks on both the Ethereum and Tezos blockchains. Those looking to join the party can do so by purchasing the recent MemberToken that features the wonderful artwork by artist Lisa Orth. The 0.2 Eth price provides lifetime access to the artificial intelligence creative tools and minting platform, and can be seen here: https://emprops.ai/projects/emprops-membertoken-e27.
I decided to make a new series for release on Ethereum that continues the exploration into creative pipelines that incorporate artificial intelligence. The e-scapes series starts with a continuation of the algorithm that was used to make Sixty-dimensional ether, a generative ai series released through EmProps on the Tezos blockchain.
The p5.js algorithm was zoomed in on, and rotated to allow for base code that was creating primitive landscape works. The algorithm in this instance is being used to create preliminary compositions, as well as choose interesting colors for the works.
Seascape based works are a step closer to form than abstract color fields and explorations of gradients, both concepts which appear in these works.
A prompt is created as an exploration in the way that an artificial intelligence system is able to generate and blend colors. While interesting and complex gradients and lighting can be created with traditional non-intelligent software like JavaScript, etc, ai models seem to have a particular ease in creating wonderful color blending, transparencies, and lighting.
The prompts are ran through ChatGPT multiple times, until a final prompt is generated.
The output images that are generated are fed back into various Stable Diffusion models over and over, until the the image becomes interesting enough to move forward.
After about 7 iterations, I chose select outputs and passed them to Adobe Lightroom, to enhance the colors in a way that I find to be interesting. While many will find them oversaturated, I find them to contain a wild vibrance.
The outputs from lightroom are then fed back into the various models, to balance the colors, and finalize the seeds with additional curational steps.
60 seeds were generated over almost daily work over the period of a month. From these 60 seeds, 10 works will be generated in this final series, via one more pass through Stable Diffusion
Hopefully EmProps's decision to allow for mints on Ethereum can lead to sustainable financial models for artists, so that they can continue to make their work.
I am including the prompt here, as it has insight into what exactly was created.
"Guide the AI tool in producing an awe-inspiring, ultra-high-definition panorama that effortlessly melds the cosmic and aquatic realms into a harmonious ensemble. This artistic symphony should mesmerize viewers with a striking dichotomy between enduring calm and nascent tumult, vividly depicted through the rhythmic flux and flow of deep-sea currents.
Fabricate this enigmatic scene on a planetarium-esque backdrop, adorned with the gentle flutter and stark transformations of nature's infinite echo. The portrayal should hum with digital dynamism, accentuating a burgeoning oceanic vista that skillfully veils the intricate chaos of an imminent storm beneath its placid surface. Immerse the audience in a hypnotic whirlpool brimming with tales of nature's ceaseless cycles and raw power, strikingly contrasted against the advancing pall of devastation.
This scintillating artwork should evoke an inexpressible sense of respect and marvel, drawing on its commendable representation of nature's endless circle, complemented by an arresting color spectrum. Visualize the synchronous reflection of the fiery red hues of autumn and the frosty blue shades of winter in this captivating panoramic seascape that adeptly interweaves elements of fantasy and reality. Construct a vibrant narrative, enriched by a range of neon watercolors brought to life within the fluid undulations of the ocean's currents.
Utilize avant-garde digital art techniques and technologies to spotlight inviting maritime landscapes and subtle color shifts within the sun-dappled marine milieu. Capture the intricacies of thermal stratification, placing emphasis on the lively and radiant existence of ocean pulses. Seamlessly blend the theoretical aesthetics of digital glitch art with pixelated depictions, pushing the boundaries of digital art techniques to accent the emotional resonance of this marine opus.
Choreograph the composition to sway gently in tune with a soothing melody, underlined by the profound symbiosis of celestial and marine phenomena. Experiment with a vibrant neon color palette, fusing serene blues with intense reds to create a fluorescent radiant horizon that brings the marine realm to life. Balance the scene's tranquility with icy arctic winds, encapsulated within an undercurrent of deceptive calm, crafting a visually compelling spectacle that etches a lasting impression.
Enrich the visual feast by interlacing key cosmic elements such as the sun, moon, sky, water, stars, and planets, sculpting a stunning manifestation of interstellar aesthetics. This extraordinary masterpiece should defy human creative boundaries, radiating an exceptional array of colors and radiant glory that exudes an extraterrestrial allure."
As a nod to the ever entwining mix of mediums artists are probing with their explorations, four of the seeds (such as e-scapes seed 9 below) used personal photographs as input. These lakescape works, taken in March and April 2020, have dark palettes that are a reference to the many people that have died from COVID-19. They are included here as a reference to the lives that were lost, and the lives that carry forth, many of which have changed dramatically since that time.
The e-scapes series can be seen at the following link: https://emprops.ai/projects/e-scapes, and Sixty-dimensional ether series is still available for minting on the Tezos blockchain at: https://emprops.ai/projects/sixty-dimensional-ether. Thank you ahead of time to all of the wonderful collectors for helping to build a sustainable financial space for artists.
Up next will be the release of fxhash 2.0 on December 1, 2023 which will also allow for the minting of generative artworks on the Ethereum blockchain. The decision by both platforms to provide the option for artists to mint on the Ethereum and Tezos blockchains shows the importance of those two blockchains for the art ecosystem. Both will play important roles in the digital art revolution.
