DMC 5 tez collection
written by Digital Maker C...
The Collectors
Digital Maker Collective (DMC), are a voluntary Research & Development (R&D) Collective made up of Creative Tech Innovators from University of the Art London (UAL) staff, students, alumni and partners. DMC share common goals in exploring digital & emerging technologies in the context of arts practice, education, society and the creative industries.
Over the past few months the Digital Maker Collective (DMC) have been exploring web3 opportunities, learning about NFTs, DAOs and currently planning web3 events and activities to help demystify web3 processes and grow the community. Most members of DMC are new to web3 and have never minted or collected NFTs before, but they are supported by members who have experience and have been in the space for a while.
The Task
The #5tezcollection challenge presented an exciting opportunity to introduce the joy of NFT collecting, many members were collecting NFTs for the first time. The collective gained first hand experience of searching and selecting art they loved on tezos, including learning good practice practical tips, such as distinguishing between verified accounts and non-verified accounts, and understanding primary, secondary markets, artwork pricing, edition sizes and just generally understanding how the different platforms work.
Most of the collective were already familiar with OBJKT but most were introduced to fxhash for the first time. The task was also a great opportunity for the collective to discover and share for the first time with each other, the kind of art and NFTs the different members liked and why.
The artworks below have been selected by members of the Digital Maker Collective (DMC) who were each given the challenge of finding an artwork below 0.5 tez, and sharing something about why they selected the artwork.

‘I picked this image as it brought me a smile when I first saw it. I enjoy seeing work of different AI artists that combine completely opposite thematic. Also an alien invasion during renaissance times while having a picnic is pretty epic’

‘I like the style, it seems honest, a bit dark but also funny, animated and yet not hectic. It makes me think and I like the simple style of it’

‘We love the minimalist and geometric nature of the generative art and the explorative commentary behind it. We also like the vast variation between each generated piece so no two are in any way alike’
Selected by: Femi @hackerfemo and Grace Owolade @gowolade

‘I like this NFT because it reminds me of the cohesive, symmetrical patterns found in the human brain, yet it is chaotic just like thoughts, memories and emotions’
Selected by: Marta @M60683502

‘This piece reminds me of a Vogue Italia photoshoot, in the style of organic biomorphism. Fashion is underrepresented in the tez art space, which is why I chose this minimalistic piece’

‘This animation is in some of my favorite colors and gives an impression of an immersive space. I also like the ‘analogue & cartoon-like’ visual effect of the graphics’

'I vicariously chose the art piece as a type of correspondence practice which is collaborative and a retro art practice in a contemporary digital time'

'The final piece, but not least, is the amazing Tickle magazine, I selected the Tickle, created and edited by Johnny Dean Mann ( @guyswily ) & Jess Britton ( @heyghostshoes ) because its a true champion of supporting artists on Tezos, shining a light on lots of new creative talent, featuring many undiscovered artist, who are not in the everyday spotlight.'
'If you are interested in Tezos art and collecting NFTs then the Tickle is a great place to start'
