This time I wanted to experiment with the rotation feature of the canvas and the spiral effect that produces. I know that is a technique that have been widely explored in the platform but (and because of that) I challenged myself to create something original from it.

With the help of conditionals, loops, and progressive rotation of the canvas I achieved that “spirograph” effect in pure line and point art, then added ellipses and rectangles.

Then my approach was to add volume and depth, combining analogous and complementary colors with white and black spiral lines. The result was an interesting mixture that resembles a pictorial background on physical canvas.

I was particularly enchanted with the center of the composition were you can see a fogged and abstract landscape. Like a mist or gaseous matter that attracts the viewer attention to the swirled center.

I added the square, thinking in both the frame of a painting and a sort of window or portal that invites you / invites me to enter to that center. The neon effect on the square just helps to create more depth in the overall composition. And as an unavoidable link, it refers to Vaporwave aesthetics. Even tho I’ve worked in a 2d flat canvas the output was a composition that sometimes gives a tridimensional feeling.

With those additions the narrative component emerges. The results are some sort of mystical portals open to another dimensions. An invitation to embrace the unknown and the sublime. An invitation to look to the abysm that look at us (Hi Nietzsche!!)

If I have to name some artistic references to this project I think in two apparently opposite artists. On one side, the artworks of Ad Reinhardt, specially his “Black paintings”. And on the other hand the psychedelic illustrations of Alex Grey. Of course, those are references that not necessarily are evident. But they were very present during the final touch of this project in the conceptual level.

And that's it. A brief journey to my creative process for "Enter the void".
