a not-so-binary world
written by rabusseau.art
What is it about?
Actually, the world isn’t binary, and our thinking shouldn’t be either. We must overcome our desire for simplicity, for dichotomies, for certainty. What we used to define in opposite ways can actually be combined, mixed together, or united to create something new, something innovative, more relevant, and more meaningful.
That is why we have started hunting for new forms of artistic methods through applied science to create an opportunity to discuss our changing understanding of perception. For most of human history, art has existed in silos.
We enjoy challenging how we perceive art and "artists", pushing the boundaries of what art is and what art can do. We can think of programming as unintuitive, precise, and methodical, and that art is the contrary, a frantic expression of some primal creative urge. To us, generative art disturbs our habits, our certainties. It breaks binary boundaries. It forces us to look beyond conventions. With the "not-so-binary world" collection, it’s about Orient meeting Occident.

How is it influenced?
Being creative is about exploring, playing with known and unknown tools. Influenced by Optical Art, programming was an answer to explore variations on our ideas.
At the confluence of aesthetics and algorithms, our artwork takes on a geometric abstraction, in which intricate patterns of isoscele triangles and, later, alternating colours are calculated to shift under our eyes, to produce movement, metamorphosis and fluidity in the form of hypnotic mashrabiyas.
Sha22’s knowledge of architecture has shaped the artwork style. The steps Sha22 took in style and technique were Op Art, where graphic lines are combined with painted shapes, colorful glasses and lights. Sha22 have been coding and painting for many years, and its motifs are rooted in geometric forms and dynamic.
Every iteration is an attempt to find the most beautiful combination of the elements and principles of art. Hue, dynamic line, symmetry, and shapes are used to mold the images into states of being and allow the viewer to relate to hypnotic feelings in the unlikely style of geometric mashrabiyas.
Who are we?
An engaged collective who believes in creative thinking to move the society forward. At the heart, there is a number of clusters of interest, influences, and issues. We are well versed in both contemporary culture & society, arts & technology, design and creative industries with a focus on the creative application of technology.
Our purpose reflects on activism in the "a not-so-binary world" collections, NFTs serving as a lens. Over the last years, we threw ourselves into bringing our vision to life. With the digital revolution taking place in the art world today, we have found in NFTs a new democratic model of engagement based on meaningful exchange, providing unprecedented access to art.
