A Fish Tale

Since I was a small kid I had been fascinated by art. When I see weird pictures, my parents and elder siblings would say, "That's art," and they would then interpret things why the artwork was rendered in such a way. I remember really significantly my dad telling me about the meaning of The Fool tarot card. It was truly mind-blowing as I was really young then. I can still recall that feeling how a piece of card can convey so many messages. From then on I have become circumspective of things, and that there is always more than meets the eye, sort of.

So that's how I got exposed to appreciating artworks at a young age. I tried to be an artist, but, alas, I have to give up on that dream. I can envision cool things I wanted to draw yet my hands and canvass are just like an Aries-Cancer or a Gemini-Scorpio match-up. Just super incompatible.

But now discovering Tezos network, and then FxHash, my love for "unobvious" things, things requiring a bit of cerebral processing, and things with deeper meanings can be likened to Pinocchio's experience of stumbling upon Pleasure Island.

Actually I used to be a stock broker, and guess that's what led me to crypto, and then to Tezos, and then here. I am enjoying stock and crypto trading because I love to see patterns. However, art trading is different. Hope nobody here begrudge me if I flip a little because I am not flipping to get profits. If I make profit from buying low and selling a bit higher, it's most likely I'm just gonna use the money to buy more collections.

In part I wrote this article because I see on discord flippers are frowned upon. I do, too, especially when flippers mint and then sell below mint price. That's a disrespect to the artist. I would never do that. I'd rather hold on to my minted piece than disrespect an artist. However, on the other side of flipping, they do help the artist in a way.

As I have said, I am an observant small fish, and I have never seen one collector buy every iterations of a 100 or 200 editions of a particular collection. The flippers, although their intention is to profit, they inadvertently are helping the artists mint out, thus fattening our resident artists' egos and the desire to create more and better collections. Sure, let them get a few tezos, but you see, it's also not good for the flippers' souls when the thing they bought for 1 tez and sold for 2 tez, and in the next two or three days the thing they sold is doing at 100 tez. I bet that'll make them flip a different kind of flip.

Me, I don't flip. I am posting selling, because... Okay, I'll admit it. One of my eccentricities in life is predicting things. When I read a book, I usually predict what's gonna happen, same with watching movies. As a former stock trader, I had lots of trades where I was able to buy at the lowest and sell at the highest on that particular day. I just believe I have this predicting ability.

But I guess, unlike crypto and stocks, artworks that I think are going to make collectors go gaga over is harder to predict. As mentioned earlier I am just an observant small fish. My transactions are probably not gonna even measure to a hundred-thousandth of Pronoia or Lemonde2d or ClownVamp's transactions. Unless Zancan buy some of them green things I listed (ahaha).

But seriously I did notice Zancan has a penchant for green things. However, just to be honest, I did not put up my green ones for sale in the hope that Zancan will scoop them up. I truly believe and predict that maybe not now, those prices I set are gonna get there. I don't want to keep on changing list prices, cause those entail costs too. I'd rather mint more actually than spend them on gas fees.

But I will confess, I did put Fantastic Terrariums #113 and Felure #184 for Zancan. I was just thinking those wonderful artworks are up his alley. By the way, I really salute Michael Zancan for supporting other artists as well. When I see him buy something way above floor price even when the mint is not finished, that's just a big boost to the collection being minted. You are one of a kind, Sir. And just thank you for creating your creations. Every piece is truly an obra.

Despite my feeling of smallness here, my fascination for things spewed out by the artists minds and hands (and keyboards) are enough to make me want to hang around and enjoy life. I predict FxHash is gonna get even better traction in terms of onboarding talented artists and as a platform. I actually minted one today called Ciudades. I didn't plan on minting but when I saw the teaser piece, I liked it. Then I researched on Mariana Ponce de Leon, and she's a real-deal traditional and mixed media artist and dropped her first collection on FxHash. The thing is FxHash is really onboarding artists all over the world.

Hopefully, in my own small fish way, the artists can tell I am here to support them. I really think FxHash is the platform for artists, collectors and art dealers where everybody can win.
