3D Picks 2022.11
written by fraguada
Welcome to 3d picks on fxhash! This is the first month I go though the projects on fxhash and highlight some I think are interesting. This is in no way financial advice. Most of the work here is not in my collection. Still, as an artist that works in 3d, I want to highlight and promote 3d art. This is my way to do that! Some of you might know that I also do this on versum, and have been doing it there since January 2022.
Methodology - I use the fxhash graph ql api to find the projects ENABLED in the month. I create a spreadsheet and go through all of the projects. I check a project when I identify it has some sort of 3d quality. This could mean a lot of things, from artwork actually using WebGL via threejs or other method, or artwork that could draw entities which have a semblance of depth.
If you feel I've missed anything, feel free to contact me on twitter or discord.
2022.11 Stats
In November 11 there were appx 1000 gentks enabled. A large number of them were minted for the one year anniversary of fxhash. I looked at almost all of them. From these, I identified 79 as having some sort of 3D je ne sais quoi.
What I liked:

Punkwelt by Erik Swahn is an artwork that I was instantly drawn to be cause of the colors and the use of oblique and isometric projection. At 640 editions, it comes in at the higher end from this month, but the collection has a great deal of variety.

I was really looking forward to Henge by Aranda\Lasch. My background is in architecture, and I learned about Aranda\Lasch during my master studies when Tooling from the Pamphlet Architecture series was published. This was a sort of taxonomy of forms and their manifestations in the built environment. It had been several years since I last crossed paths with their work and hearing of the release instantly brought back the memories and influence of their work on my studies.
Henge presents the user with an arrangement of elements into a fictional monument. The experience includes the ability to view the work from different perspectives and orthographic views. Of all of the architectural fiction I've seen on fxhash, this speaks to my architectural background. It is conceptual, fictional, yet tectonic and plausible.

Beyond the asteroid belt by ge1doot + anaglyphic is exactly the opposite of Henge for me. A directionless world, disorienting and digital. It is a world where you want to navigate precisely because of the lack of orientation. The voxel / minecraft aesthetic rendering of an isosurface volume, subtle use of texture, and depth of field makes me want to explore.
Be on the lookout for projects where anaglyphic is a collaborator. This typically means that the gentk is compatible with the Anaverse. The Anaverse is a virtual environment which supports world building and governance via 3d gentks.

Acequia by Rich Poole and ThePaperCrane is a beautiful isometric world of viaducts, ramps, and staircases. Think of it as Qbert meets Monument Valley (the game). The colors and the subtle animation are a nice touch.

Remnant fields - planar by wblut is study of volumes and slicing, which should come as no surprise to anyone who follows this artist. There is a great variety of arrangements in the collection, from single entities, to a dense matrix of forms. Each iteration is a generator, so there are controls to generate other iterations, zoom in and out, and toggle on/off the outer wireframe.

Space, Mystery, Light & Time by rodellwarner is so minimal but also so 3d! I am a sucker for good wireframe compositions, and this gentk does not disappoint. This is rodellwarner's first release on fxhash!

Modulation by Randm is an isometric cityscape gentk which generates very dense arrangements of blocks that resemble building towers. The isometric projection and simple color palette makes this series really nice to explore. Though I wouldn't want to live there!

Joy Spaces by Victor Doval was one of the many fxhashturnsone projects this month. I really appreciate how this project is rendered in these transparent volumes, how the color accumulates at the edges and corners, and how the likes extend from the volumes. Brings back memories from my undergraduate architecture days!

Simulated Reality by ge1doot is a world of isometric details. Almost like an exploded axonometric of a 3d printer.

Archibots by Charles and David Umemoto is a collection of 3d anthropomorphic robots which you can download and get 3d printed.

Uitgekamd by Theo Horsmeier presents a dark and moody environment where volumes are treated with repeating translucent gradient patterns. The use of single sided materials means that as the volumes rotate, some faces disappear. I really enjoy the lighting and materiality of this work.
